Potential Severe Weather Outbreak 2-24-2011 Forecast
Here is the forecast concerning the potential severe weather outbreak for Thursday, February 24,2011:On Thursday at 1200Z the low pressure system will be emerging out of the Western US into the Central Plains. Here's the setup: Shear profiles of 60-70kt winds will be in place across E Oklahoma, NE Texas, Arkansas, NW Louisiana, and into W Tennessee and Kentucky. Cape values will be in the 1250 range across parts of Eastern Oklahoma/NE Texas and widespread values up to 750 across much of forecast area. The lifted index values will be ranging from -3 to -6 across much of this region as well. Surface dew points will hover right around 60F or slightly higher.Temps will range from 70 in N. Oklahoma up to the mid 70's into Texas/Arkansas. This setup will be able to destabilize the atmosphere fairly quickly that afternoon into evening. This system could have the threat to put down multiple tornadoes. I would not be surprised to see and EF2 or maybe one EF3 tornado out of this system. My forecast for tornado threat is as follows: The 5%, possible 10%, risk area will most likely be Eastern OK, NE Texas, and Arkansas with a 2% risk area extending to N. Louisiana, W. TN/KY, Southern tip of Illinois, and down into Central Mississippi. Storm speed is still uncertain at this time but I'd say ranging from 30-50mph. People in these areas need to be prepared to have the risk for severe weather. Keep a close alert to your local NWS forecasts and local media outlets for further forecasts as well as our website.
