January Severe Weather for Dixie Alley!
These next couple days the threat of severe weather returns to Dixie Alley. The Storm Prediction Center has issued Slight Risk areas for both tomorrow and Sunday.(See Below) Tomorrow the severe weather will be mainly focused from Alabama eastward to South Carolina. The main threat of severe weather will be damaging winds and hail, although a few isolated tornadoes cannot be ruled out. Then, on Sunday, the threat will shift into the Tennessee Valey/Ozarks region. The threat on Sunday will be more widespread it appears after looking at the lastes NAM models. There is also a chance that on Monday the threat may continue, but the GFS and EMCWF models are at odds with each other, so the predictability is too low at this time to issue a risk area for Monday. Be sure to watch all the live storm chasing streams through our streaming provider ChaserTV. We will be posting further updates as warranted and the Nowcasting thread in the forum will have all the latest weather watches, warnings, and statements. The Storm Outlook page will also have the latest severe weather risk maps. Stay tuned for further updates from EWV on this developing storm system!
Severe Weather Is The Pre-thanksgiving Appetizer
Here we are, November 21,2011; it's just a few days before Thanksgiving and severe weather is on the menu tomorrow for much of the Southeast up to the Ohio Valley. The first tornado watch has just been issued in parts of SE Oklahoma and much of Central Arkansas. Tomorrow we will see the severe threat expand from Southern Ohio South-Southwestward to Eastern Texas. A QLCS appears likely to form by midday and will move eastward throughout the day. A few isolated cells out ahead of the QLCS will also be possible. The most favorable atmosphere will be from Tenessee SW into Mississippi and Alabama. This area will have CAPE values at or around 1,500J. This will be supportive for supercells and bow segments in the QLCS. The threat should diminish further to the east. Here is the categorial risk for tomorrow. We'll be streaming on the LIVE VIDEO page so be sure to check out all the action!
Big Time Warm Up Across the South This weekend!
This weekend we could see over thirty cities break record temperatures. Sunday temperatures will be in the mid to upper 80's across much of the Southeast and even a few 90's can't be ruled out. Across the Southwest temps could get into the triple digits! Check out this map of forecast temperatures across the country for Sunday afternoon.
Why such a dramatic warm up? Well you know the saying, that whatever goes up must come back down, that will be the case after our warm up. The reason for the heat wave is because warm air is out ahead of the cold front that is sweeping across the country. After the front passes some will see the fall weather they have been itching for. Once the cold fron passes, temperatures could drop as much as 20 degrees. Highs will only be in the 50's and 60's where, just the day before, it was in the 80's. Night time temps could hit the 30's in some places. Be sure to have those coats ready, you will need them to start off the work week. I'll try to keep updated as much as I can.
