We started the day off in Enid, OK where we all got together and decided on two tentative targets for the day. One in southeastern, KS and the other in southeastern, OK. We decided that the best play would be to head south towards the southeasten OK target so we did just that. On the way we stopped off at Rocky Rascovich's house in Piedmont, OK (just northwest of OKC) to say hi to some fellow chasers. Rocky hosts the annual StormTrack picnic and we figured we could grab some food, meet some friends and keep an eye on the evolving environment. At around 5:30 we saw towers going up to our south near the Ada, OK area so we headed on out. There were two supercells that had gone up and we were hearing reports of tornadoes reported on the southern storm. We were worried that we were too far behind the 8 ball on this day. But, after about a two hour drive we arrived on the northern cell which by this time was looking much better organized and as luck would have it, we were able to get into perfect position to view what was an amazing tornado right around sunset! Southeastern Oklahoma is known for it's poor visibility due to thick tree coverage, and the Ada, OK area is no exception. But this tornado planted itself right in between the line of trees directly over the road, so we had a clear shot at it for it's entire life cycle. Thankfully this tornado touched down on the west side of town and as I write this, I have not heard of any injuries or serious damage. If this ends up being the case that it was truly a perfect chase day. Hope you enjoy the video! Storms went up early today so it was a bit of a rush to get into position. We ended up targeting the Canton, OK storm but couldn't get into position in time to catch the wedge. We would have had a much better shot at seeing it if the visibilities weren't so poor but oh well. So, Dave and I decided to blast down highway 58 and after getting through some moderate to heavy precip, the wall cloud finally came into view. We pulled over on the side of the road and right then, it dropped a nice rope tornado that stayed on the ground for a few minutes before dissapating. After that, we blasted down to the OKC metro where we tried to intercept the tornadic storms that were affecting that area but due to poor visibilities, and the chaos that was taking place down there, we didn't have much luck and gave up for the day. All in all though a very eventful chase day but we were saddened by the news of so many towns that were hit hard. My thoughts are with all those affected. A tornado warning was issued and about ten minutes later a tornado was reported about 5 miles NE of where this video was taken. That day there was also a tornado in Seminole, Fl which was an EF-2 and did damage. This storm system aslo caused major problems in the Lakeland, FL area as well as Orlando. Confirmed with research and concrete evidence. The January 25th storm was a nasty HP(high precipitation) monster. We experienced near 50mph winds where we were as the storm blew over. The road you see is HWY 60 connecting Tampa to Clearwater, Fl. We are looking southeast. This tornado was seen by the public as it approached Tampa on the east side of the bay. Must have been an amazing site. It was a fast moving storm and the tornado only lasted minutes. This same storm produced another possible tornado up near the Lakeland area. I was so thrilled when I was reviewing this video to find out that I had caught the tornado on film. With it came some hail,high winds, lightning, and extremely heavy rain! Nonetheless it was my first severe storm this year here in Stone Mountain that actually produced hail. The sound it made was incredible! Sorry i didn't get it on tape the storm moved very quickly!
